iBSc Sport & Exercise Medicine at ISEH – Open to External UK Medical Students

We are pleased to announce that the iBSc Sport & Exercise Medicine, delivered at ISEH and led by UCL, will become open to external medical students from UK medical schools. Applications open from late February.

Duration: 1 year (full-time)

Dissertation: Students will complete an in-depth research project under expert supervision.

This programme offers a unique opportunity to study the scientific foundations of Sport and Exercise Medicine, one of the newest medical specialties. Teaching is delivered by a leading team of academics working in elite sport and research.

Students will develop expertise in:

  • The scientific basis, evidence and practical skills in exercise prescription and promotion for chronic disease prevention and management.
  • Principles of musculoskeletal and sports injuries covering relevant anatomy and physiology, aetiology and mechanisms, diagnosis and treatment.
  • Clinical examination of the musculoskeletal system and biomechanical assessment.
  • Fundamental exercise physiology relating to health, disease and sporting performance. Designing effective strength and conditioning programs, as well as conducting and interpreting Cardiopulmonary Exercise Tests.
  • Tissue healing principles underlying exercise prescription and rehabilitation of injuries relating to bone, cartilage, muscle, tendon and ligaments.
  • Practical application of the research process, including ethics, data protection, robust methodology, medical statistics, and development of skills in presenting work at medical conferences and scientific writing in medical journals.

Eligibility

Applicants must have completed year 2 MBBS, this does not have to specifically be at UCL, and international students will be considered.
