The UCL Sport and Exercise Medical Sciences BSc is an innovative programme that equips you with skills in sport and exercise to work with both athletic and clinical populations.
This programme differs from traditional sports science or sport and exercise science programmes offered in the UK, in that it provides an in-depth medical and clinical grounding to sport and exercise performance, equipping students for broader career choices, including patient-facing careers that serve to improve health, longevity and quality of life.
In the clinical aspects of the course, students learn how the human body works in health and disease, how exercise impacts patients and populations with chronic diseases, and how to prescribe exercise for the prevention and management of medical conditions.
In the sports & performance aspects of the course, students learn how to conduct exercise tests, how to optimise athletic performance, how to design training programmes and how to assess, rehabilitate and prevent injuries.
A large part of this degree includes scientific research skills, where students plan, conduct and present a research study of their own. These projects are often run in collaboration with other departments, giving the students access to some of the best research facilities in the world.
