Professional Biography

Dr Brian Cunniffe is Head of Performance Support based at the English Institute of Sport, (EIS). His primary role is to manage and align performance delivery and projects to athlete need and ‘what it takes to win’.

Brian has previously worked with the British Olympic Association (Senior Sports Scientist) where he coordinated and lead on a number of sports science medical projects with many of Great Britain’s medal winning Olympic athletes and teams. He was also selected as part of Team GB’s HQ core performance and medical team during the London Olympics. Other key roles have included performance support at the EIS and within professional rugby union (Wales Rugby). Alongside work with Olympic athletes, Brian has been a Sports Scientist for British and Irish Lions Rugby over the last two tours of Australia 2013 and New Zealand 2017.

Brian is a guest reviewer for several leading science and medical journals and is a guest lecturer at UCL (Honorary Research Associate).
