Professional Biography

Clare is a Clinical Respiratory Physiotherapist for the Institute of Sport, Exercise and Health (ISEH), treating patients from age 12 years and over.

Clare qualified with a BSc Hons Degree in physiotherapy from the University of Cape Town, South Africa in 2007. Clare worked in South Africa within respiratory and paediatrics until she moved the UK in 2012.

Within the UK, Clare has worked predominately within the paediatric respiratory setting, while still keeping up her adults’ respiratory skills. She has worked at Royal Manchester children’s Hospital and within major London Hospitals. Clare has worked in a variety of respiratory fields including, PICU, bronchiectasis, CF, Adult ICU, Pulmonary Rehab and chronic respiratory; more recently since 2016 she has chosen to focus on asthma, breathing pattern disorders (BPD) and Exercise induced Laryngeal (EILO) within paediatrics. Currently she is the Clinical Lead Physiotherapist for Paediatric asthma and Breathing Pattern at Kings College Hospital London alongside ISEH. Clare has set up the paediatric physiotherapy services in asthma, BPD and EILO within both Kings College Hospital and St Georges Hospitals. Both clinics have shown to eliminate/reduce respiratory symptoms and improve quality of life for those who have attended. Clare specialises in asthma, BPD and EILO within the paediatric cohort (5-18yrs), while still treating adults. She has successfully worked with many young athletes at various levels (club, county, regional, junior GB etc) to achieve their goals.

Clare is on both the Physiotherapy for Breathing pattern disorder and the Association of Paediatric Chartered physiotherapists (APCP) Respiratory Committees trying to support and educate on the growing field of asthma, BPD and EILO within the paediatric population and how physiotherapy is integral in their management. Clare is qualified both in Buteyko and Bradcliff breathing methods.

Clare has always enjoyed sports and exercise herself, having played netball and softball during her younger years. She has run many half marathons and cycles regularly, but choses to focus mostly on yoga and strength training.
