We are pleased to share that due to a partnership between University College London's (UCL) Division of Surgery and Interventional Sciences and Mr Motivator’s Club, GPs and healthcare professionals can now refer patients who would benefit from regular exercise as part of their treatment with a dedicated exercise programme. This will be part of a ISEH and UCL MSc study looking at the outcomes of patients referred.

We encourage GPs and healthcare professionals in the UK to refer patients with a chronic condition who are not meeting The World Health Organisations (WHO) guidelines onto the exercise referral scheme. The programme is provided free-of-charge and will last for 12 weeks – patients will attend the exercise classes virtually.

The virtual sessions are designed to make physical activity fun! The Mr Motivator Club has live Zoom classes with standing and sitting options three times a week, and a library of pre-recorded classes. Patients who have a chronic condition and not meeting the WHO physical activity recommendations can be referred.

The WHO guidelines are:
•    At least 150 minutes moderate intensity aerobic activity per week OR
•    At least 75 minutes vigorous intensity aerobic activity per week

This includes but not limited to:

  • Hypertension
  •  Diabetes
  • At risk of diabetes
  • Raised Cholesterol
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Mental Health
  • Learning Difficulties
  • Frailty
  • Obesity
