Hafiz Abdel Nabi an MSc student on the ISEH Sports Medicine, Exercise & Health course from 2021 has won a prestigious UCL award for the quality of his research project investigating Achilles Tendinopathy.

The Scales Prize is awarded annually within the UCL Division of Surgery and Interventional Science to the best overall Individual Research Project by a Postgraduate Taught Student within the field of Orthopaedics and Musculoskeletal Science. The prestigious award consists of a medal, certificate, and cash prize.

Abdel Nabi's research project sought to investigate the correlation between the VISA-A score (a questionnaire that evaluates the clinical severity of chronic Achilles tendinopathy) and lower limb strength. His research found a moderate positive correlation between the VISA-A score and lower limb strength and a weak positive correlation between lower limb power and VISA-A.

Abdel Nabi was proud to receive this honour and said of his prize: “The Scales Prize Award has given me more confidence going forward and reinforced my desire to pursue the field of sport medicine further. I am grateful and honoured to be awarded with such a prestigious prize.”
