Sindy Patel is Senior Radiographer and Unit Supervisor at the ISEH. She qualified as a radiographer in 1997 and has worked within both the NHS and private healthcare.

ISEH: Can you tell us a bit about your job role at the ISEH?

SINDY: I’m a senior radiographer here. I primarily look after the day-to-day running of the imaging set-up that we have here. I also deputise for the Unit Manager. As well as that, I’m an all-round troubleshooting person!

ISEH: Can you tell us about your background and how you got involved with the Institute?

SINDY: I qualified as a radiographer in 1997 and worked for UCLH for two years. I’ve worked for HCA Hospitals for six years, the last two of which have been here at the ISEH.

ISEH: Can you tell us about your experience of working here?

SINDY: It’s a small, friendly team because most of us have been here from the very beginning. We were unpacking boxes, setting rooms up and getting to know each other before we actually opened.  It was a really good opportunity for everyone to gel.

Now, everyone helps each other out. A nurse can sit at reception and be able to go to MRI or ultrasound and have an idea of what’s going on in there. It also gives you a little bit of variety in your daily role.

ISEH: What are your ambitions for the future?

SINDY: I’m looking forward to helping the ISEH grow and become even busier because our patients are happy with their care. My favourite thing about this place is that it’s a one-stop shop: you can get physio, scanning and ultrasound all on the same day. I think it’s the way forward when it comes to health care. The environment’s brilliant too.

I’d like to see the ISEH become the ‘go-to’ for sports and activity-related injuries in and beyond London. You don’t need to be a sportsman or -woman to come here; it’s also for the wider public, amateur sports people or anyone who’s sustained a muscular or bony injury that may be limiting their activity.
