The Winter Olympics has come to a close in Sochi, Russia, and it was no surprise that the high risk Games saw so many young daredevil athletes pushing the boundaries of their chosen disciplines and sustain a variety of detrimental injuries.

The Games saw the following members of Team GB missing out on medals due to injury:

Great Britain freestyle skier Rowan Cheshire, suffered concussion and facial injuries when she fell on her face during ski halfpipe training forcing her to withdraw from the Sochi Games.

Team GB Bobsleigh team member Craig Pickering, slipped a disk. Pickering sustained the L3-4 acute disc prolapse injury during a training session and subsequently was unable to compete in the two-man event on 16 February and the four-man event six days later.

Team GB mens slopestyle, James Woods, gained a hip injury during training. Woods went on to gain a fifth-place finish but later admitted that due to his hip injury he was unable to bring his best game to the table

Britains only female Alpine ski racer, Chemmy Alcott, competed in the super-G and the downhill events at the Sochi Games but withdrew from the giant slalom event.  Alcott has broken her right leg three times throughout her career and Sochi is her last Winter Games.

Londons Institute of Sport, Exercise and Health (ISEH) is best placed to assist these winter sports stars to a full recovery upon their return to the UK post Games, providing them with world-leading sports injury rehabilitation.
