Prof Fares Haddad is the Clinical Director of the Institute of Sport Exercise and Health (ISEH) and a Consultant Orthopaedic and Sport Surgeon at University College London Hospitals, The Princess Grace Hospital and The Wellington Hospital. The ISEH has been a vision for Prof Haddad for many years and following the 2012 London Olympics the ISEH was officially launched by Lord Coe in June 2013. Now in November 2014 the ISEH is delivering: 

  • Excellent clinical services to both NHS, private and elite sports patients 
  • World class research and the capability to help a wide range of organisations 
  • World class education delivering an MSc in Sports Medicine, Exercise and Health and an MSc in Performing Arts Medicine as well as a number of stand-alone courses 
  • A range of support for sporting organisations 
  • Important population health initiatives including the evaluation and monitoring of the Camden ‘Active Spaces’ project, a physical activity project for young people 

Prof Haddad is a world leading Orthopaedic surgeon who travels extensively around the world lecturing at a variety of conferences.  His clinical and research interests centre around hip and knee reconstructions including complex and revision joint replacements and lower limb arthroscopy, ligament injuries and reconstructive surgery.

After qualifying from Middlesex Hospital and University College Hospital, he completed his postgraduate training at the St. Bartholomew's, Royal Free and Royal National Orthopaedic Hospitals in London. He then undertook Specialist Fellowship Training in Hip and Knee reconstruction and Sports Medicine in Gainsville and Los Angeles in the USA and Vancouver, Canada. 

One of Prof Haddad’s key conferences within the UK is the Sports Injuries and Sports Orthopaedics Conference held on the  21 and 22 January 2015 which will be  hosted by the Royal Society of Medicine and delivered jointly with the ISEH. 

This conference is designed for orthopaedic trainees, orthopaedic consultants, sports medicine practitioners, physiotherapists, osteopaths, chiropractors and all who are interested in sports injuries, their aetiology, their presentation, their investigation and management and their rehabilitation and recovery.   

Experts from all over the UK will come together with support from the ISEH, the National Centre for Sport & Exercise Medicine and BOSTAA in order to bring a lively interactive programme together. 

Topics in focus will include tendinopathy, joint instability and its presentation and management, stem cell interventions and their place in sports at present, management of hip and groin pain in sport and exercise and injuries in pregnancy.
