The Institute of Sport, Exercise and Health (ISEH) is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Matthew Welck as a Consultant Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Surgeon.

Matthew is a Consultant Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Surgeon at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH), where he applies cutting edge research into novel methods for treating arthritis, deformity correction, and neuromuscular disorders.

Matthew graduated from Leeds University Medical School and attained first class honours with distinction Bachelor and Master of science degrees. He is double fellowship trained in foot and ankle surgery and completed a clinical and research fellowship at the world-renowned Foot and Ankle Institute in Baltimore, USA.

In addition to his clinical roles, Matthew is an Honorary Associate Professor at the University College London and is actively involved in foot and ankle surgery teaching and research, presenting his work nationally and internationally. Matthew specialises in all areas of foot and ankle surgery, supporting active and retired athletes with ankle arthritis, ankle ligament Injuries, Achilles problems and plantar fasciitis.

Professor Mat Wilson, Head of Sport and Exercise Medicine at the ISEH said: "We welcome Matthew to the ISEH, where he will work alongside our sport and exercise medicine consultants, physiotherapist, and podiatrists, treating and researching lower limb injuries. This excellent appointment helps cement our reputation as a centre of excellence in sport and exercise medicine.”
